You need a separate, unique barcode for every distinct version of your product that a customer could pick up and buy on its own — not one barcode per “product line.” If two items look different on the shelf or are sold as a different unit, they need different barcodes.

Different size or weight — e.g. 250ml vs. 500ml

Different flavour, scent, or variant

Different colour

Different packaging type — e.g. bottle vs. sachet vs. tin

Any change to the recipe or formulation

A private label or rebrand of the same physical product

How to register your barcode
Registration is optional — your barcode scans correctly without it — but it makes your product searchable on barcodesdatabase.org, listed in partner databases, and indexed by Google. It’s included free with every barcode you buy from us.
STEP 1 Create your Customer Portal account
Every registration starts with a free International Barcodes Network Customer Portal account. This is where you’ll manage your barcode and QR orders, registrations, and product records going forward.
STEP 2 Register your barcode’s product details
Once logged into the portal, add your product’s price, brand, and image so it appears correctly in the International Barcodes Database — searchable by manufacturer, product name, and origin. View Registration Instructions
