ITF-14 Carton Barcodes

ITF-14 (Interleaved 2 of 5) is the global barcode standard for outer case and carton labeling. Unlike retail barcodes (EAN-13 or UPC-A) which are scanned at checkout, ITF-14 barcodes are used in logistics and supply chains – they help warehouses, distributors, and retailers track shipments and manage inventory.

At Barcodes Uganda, we provide genuine ITF-14 barcode numbers and print-ready images. Whether you are exporting goods or supplying local retailers, an ITF-14 barcode ensures your cartons are scannable throughout the entire distribution chain.

ITF-14 barcodes are 14-digit barcodes used on delivery boxes. These boxes contain a set number of the retail product going into stores. The ITF-14 numbers are usually created from the barcode number on the retail product within the box. Up to ten different ITF-14 Barcodes can be created from one EAN-13 number.

Important: Retail stores do not scan ITF-14 barcodes at the checkout. They are strictly for supply chain and logistics. For retail sales, you still need EAN-13 or UPC-A on individual products.

  • ITF-14 Carton Barcodes

Here you can purchase ITF-14 images. These will be emailed through to you in standard size with 3 formats (.pdf, .svg, .png) once the order has been received.

Please specify in the ‘additional information’ section what EAN-13 barcode you need the ITF-14 created from – up to 10 ITF-14 Images can be created from each EAN-13 code). This system is automated and if you supply valid EAN13 barcode numbers, it will create the ITF14 barcodes automatically and email them to you in a few minutes. If you want ITF14 barcodes for 12 digit UPC numbers, please add a leading 0 to the UPC numbers when entering them in the ‘additional information’ box.

If you are purchasing an EAN-13 barcode at the same time as an ITF-14 barcode, then just type “n/a” into the ‘additional information’ section (we will assign an EAN-13 barcode to you, and then use that barcode to create the ITF-14 carton code images).

Structure of an ITF-14 Number

An ITF-14 barcode encodes exactly 14 digits:

Digit Position Purpose
Digit 1 Packaging indicator (0 = case of EAN-13 items, 1 = case of UPC-A items, 2-8 = variable pack sizes, 9 = variable measure)
Digits 2–13 The EAN-13 or UPC-A number of the inner product (without its check digit)
Digit 14 Calculated check digit (based on the first 13 digits)

Example:
If your product has an EAN-13 of 1234567890123, the ITF-14 number would be:
0 (packaging indicator) + 123456789012 (first 12 digits) + [calculated check digit] = 14 digits.
